When choosing swimwear it's important to understand that there are some colours that will suit your skin tone and there are some which you should steer clear of.

An easy rule to remember is that if you look at your skin tones, which are the colours in your skin, then these are the colours you should avoid. So, if you have a red/flush complexion, then avoid reds and pinks and if you have a sallow complexion then steer clear of yellows and greens. A simple way of understand what colours suit your skin tone is to go around your house and hold different coloured fabrics up to your face - you will soon see what colours to avoid.

Here is my quick skin tone colour guide:

  • Olive or darker skin tones - you are the luckiest of the lot as every colour will suit you, from the neon brights, the limes, the corals, the oranges, through to the blues, turquoises and the pastel shades.
  • Fair skin tones - always remember that lime greens and yellows will be draining, solid black and solid navy may overwhelm you, so if you want to wear black then make sure it's in a monochrome pattern or mixed with another colour. Pinks, lilacs and lavenders will add warmth to your skin tone
  • Very pale - beware of bright and dark colours and stick to mid tones or pastels. Those with pale skin should try peacock and turquoise tones and if you have red hair, try greens - anything from emerald to kiwi, as this is a sure way to look fab!
