Why are you promoting baby swimming?
Swimming is close to my heart, swimming with both my
little ones is how I got back into shape. I put on 2 stone
when I had my first and 2 1/2 stone with Star, unlike many mums in
the public eye I didn't have the time or the energy to torture
myself with a military style exercise and diet plan; that's just
not me.
Swimming is such a natural thing and it's a great exercise. I
even swam until I was about 8.5 months pregnant as it was such a
gentle exercise.
So many mums and dads hold back from swimming until their little
one is older but babies can go swimming from birth.
Up and down the UK more and more swimming pools are signing up
to the Little Swimmers baby friendly pool finder. Go to the Little
Swimmers Pool Finder to find your nearest pool.
Swimming is so good for mum and baby, great for bonding and it's
a healthy hobby to get in to.
My babies have always been in HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® swim
pants - they are so easy to use and you don't have to bother with a
bathing costume for them because they have bright fun characters on
the front.
Were you worried about wearing a swimming costume in
public after you had Star-Lily?
I wasn't too worried as other mums at the pool would have been
in the exact same situation themselves. I don't think people
really care about looking at you - they are more interested in a
new baby in the pool today. People see things differently to how
you perceive yourself, so it is quite refreshing to let go of your
hang ups and have fun with the baby.

How did you get back into shape after you had your two
little ones? Do you think it's a good form of exercise?
I swam before, during my pregnancy and after and I honestly
believe that helped to get my shape back. It's a great way to
exercise while spending fun time with your baby. I found that
exercises such as dipping Star in and out of the water really
helped. Swimming is great for toning up and the beauty is you don't
treat it as exercise as you're focussing on your baby.
Also because I swam a lot throughout my pregnancy and I've
always danced and kept fit, it was a good exercise for me. I
remember the doctor saying to me one of the best and safest forms of
exercise is swimming, which is obviously the key when
pregnant.
Do you have any makeup tips for mums about to go on their
first swim?
I don't really bother wearing much make-up when I'm going
swimming as it's all about the baby and them having fun. At the end
of the day, I think it does us all good to just take the make-up
off, relax and have quality time with the family. I put my hair up
because that's one less thing to worry about, and sometimes put on
some waterproof mascara, but I've got to be honest, I tend to
usually go au natural.
Any style advice for mums going swimming for the first
time?
If you have been swimming through your pregnancy there is no
reason why you can't wear your pregnancy swimsuit
afterwards. But I think really again for me, you kind of tend to
let go of some of your insecurities because you are looking after
your little baby. I know some people are going to feel apprehensive
about their first time, but you've got your towel there, put baby
on your hip and you're away.
